Alexander Central’s run though the Dick’s Sporting Goods Classic Basketball Tournament ended Wednesday with a pair of losses in the Championship games.
Women
Newton Conover 52
Alexnder Central 43
The Lady Cougars led by as many as 11 in the first half but Newton Conover dominated the game in the third and fourth quarters. Tournament MVP Cassidy Geddes led the Lady Red Devils with 20 points that included 12 of 13 from the free throw line. Alexander Central suffers their first defeat of the season and fall to 11-1. Newton Conover is 9-1.

Hickory never trailed in the Men’s final. The Red Tornadoes were up by 5 after the first quarter and led by 9 at halftime. Hickory’s pressure forced 22 Alexander Central turnovers. Tournament MVP Jayden Maddox led Hickory with 19 points. Evan Presnell topped the scoring for the Cougars with 14. Hickory improves to 10-1 while ACHS sees a 10-game winning streak end and are 10-2.
