An incident occurred on Wednesday at the Alexander County Correctional Institution in Taylorsville.
Upwards of 50 inmates refused to return to their cells from a recreational yard.
A NC Department of Adult Corrections Officer was apparently assaulted and injured. B86 has confirmed that the officer was transported to an area hospital by Alexander County EMS.
The facility was placed on lockdown.
Alexander County Sheriff Chad Pennell said that his deputies were not requested.
