Convenience Store Robbed In Newton

August 21, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

On Saturday (August 19) shortly before 3:45 a.m., officers from the Newton Police Department responded to the Circle H gas station/convenience store at 334 East 20th Street, in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers were told that a black male suspect entered the store and demanded money from the store clerk as he displayed a weapon.

The suspect then left the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, traveling west on East 20th Street. With the assistance of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspect.

The suspect is described as being a black male, possibly in his 20s or 30s, between 5’7” – 5’10” in height, weighing between 170 -180 pounds, wearing a black face mask, black hoodie shirt, black pants and black tennis shoes.

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Newton Police Department. Anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or has any additional information about this incident, including the possible identity of the suspect, is asked to contact Investigator Dylan Adkins with the Newton Police Department at (828) 465-7430.
