Conover Woman Found Guilty Of Involuntary Manslaughter

A Catawba County jury has found Brittney Lyfae McCleave, 34, of Conover, guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of 36-year-old Danta Broome. McCleave was initially charged with first-degree murder.

McCleave was sentenced on Thursday to serve up to 36 months in prison. McCleave has been held at the Catawba County Detention Center for over three years and was granted credit for time served.

Broome was shot and killed at his home on Lyle Haven Drive in Conover on September. 6, 2021. McCleave and Broome’s two children were at the home when Broome was shot and killed, according to court documents.
