Catawba County Road to Close as N.C. 16 Improvements Continue

May 12, 2021 By Richard C. Gilbert

MAIDEN – A N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close a section of a Catawba County road next week to resume improvements on a state highway.

Buffalo Shoals Road will be closed between Little Mountain Road and N.C. 16 starting Monday. This is part of the overall construction project to widen N.C. 16 to four lanes and improve traffic flow. The closure will allow crews to perform grading, some asphalt milling and paving of the existing Buffalo Shoals Road to tie into the new alignment of N.C. 16. This closure is expected to last a week, weather permitting.
Traffic along the route will be detoured to Little Mountain Road, Rant Drum Road, N.C. 16 and back to Buffalo Shoals Road.

Motorists should use caution while approaching the work zone and expect delays due to the detour.
