38-year-old Patrick Loy Little, Jr. of Sherrills Ford was killed in a fatal collision in Iredell County Thursday morning . The accident occurred at about 10:40 a.m.. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of the crash on N.C. Highway 150 at the Catawba County line.
According to the Highway Patrol, a 2002 Dodge Caravan driven by Mr. Little was traveling east on N.C. 150 on the bridge near the Pinnacle Access Area when it crossed the double yellow centerline and sideswiped a westbound tractor-trailer. The van continued and collided head-on with a westbound pickup truck. All the vehicles came to rest on the bridge, blocking the roadway.
Mr. Little died at the scene. He was not restrained by a seat belt. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 41-year-old Charlotte man, was not injured. The driver of the pickup truck, a 40-year-old Charlotte man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by E.M.S. to Atrium Health Lincoln.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation. No charges will be filed. Contributing circumstances to the collision are still under investigation.
