On Sunday, at 4:10 pm, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to 2854 Pax Hill Road, Morganton in reference to a gunshot wound. Once on the scene, deputies found the victim, Gary David Ritch, age 57, with gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital where he died.
There were bail bonding agents on the scene at the time of the shooting. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is working in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Insurance, and the investigation is ongoing. The Department of Insurance licenses and regulates bail bonding agents.
