MORGANTON – On Monday, January 15, at approximately 6:55 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Burke County on US 64 near Baker Farm Road. A 2000 Nissan Xterra was traveling north on US 64, attempted to pass another northbound vehicle, and collided head-on with a southbound 2020 Freightliner utility truck. This collision caused the Xterra to catch on fire. The driver of the Xterra, Aaron Nicholas Langley, 31, of Ellenboro (Rutherford County), was entrapped in the truck and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the utility truck, Jacob Andrew Christenbury, 25, of Claremont, was not injured.

US 64 was closed in the area for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation. No charges will be filed in this case.
