A man has been charged with the murder of his mother this morning in Alexander County.
Alexander County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched at 8:47 am today after a call to 911 reported a female suffering gunshot wounds off Harbert Mountain Road in the Sugar Loaf Community of Northern Alexander County.
Officers responded along with Alexander County EMS and found a female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and arm. Information received was that the suspect had left the scene armed and in a vehicle. A description was given to responding officers of a small gray hatchback vehicle.
Deputies located the vehicle en route to the scene at the intersection of NC Hwy 16 North and Mount Olive Church Rd. The driver refused to stop until it arrived at a residence on Harbert Mountain Road. 36-year old Christopher Lee Brown was taken into custody. Brown was armed at the time of the arrest.Alexander County EMS transported the victim to a designated helicopter landing zone off of Seth Deal Ln in the Sugar Loaf Community. The victim was pronounced deceased enroute to the landing zone.
Brown has been charged with first-degree murder and placed in the Alexander County Detention Center. He is being held without bond. Sheriff Chris Bowman noted the assistance of Alexander County EMS, Taylorsville Police Department, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and Sugar Loaf First Responders.

Update:
The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that they have had interactions with the suspect in the past. Deputies have been called to the residence previously. Within the past year, all weapons were seized from the home. The weapons by law, were returned after Brown had completed treatment for an undisclosed disorder. Brown is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Monday in Alexander County District Court.
