A vehicle chase began in Alexander County this afternoon after a car was able to elude a checkpoint.
Alexander County Sheriff’s Deputies had established a checkpoint on Millersville Road. A black sedan with Florida license plates fled from the scene at a high rate of speed. Deputies and the NC Highway Patrol pursued the car for miles on multiple roadways in the Alexander County. The vehicle left Alexander County on Highway 16 heading south into Catawba County.
Sheriff Chris Bowman says the vehicle was pursued by Highway Patrol Troopers on Interstate 40 in Catawba County at speeds of 120 miles per hour. The identity of the driver is not known at this time.
At last report the suspect vehicle had yet to be stopped.
