Boomer Man Killed In Wilkes Crash

The driver died and another driver was seriously injured in a two-car crash on Tuesday afternoon in the Goshen Community of Wilkes County.

Nicolas Frutis, 75, of Boomer, was pronounced dead at the scene according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol. The other driver was Christina Love, 44, of Boomer was airlifted from the scene with life-threatening injuries.

A Highway Patrol report said Frutis was driving a 2003 Saturn westbound on N.C. 268 West that crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound Toyota RAV4 SUV driven by Love about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses reported seeing the Saturn go left of center, said the trooper, adding that speed and impairment were not factors.
