Alexander Central looked to be in position to pull a major upset Tuesday. Sadly for the Lady Cougars, Ashbrook rallied and won a first round state 3A playoff game in Gastonia.

Alexander Central, a 13 seed in the West bracket, held a 7 point halftime lead. Ashbrook stormed back in the third quarter and led 42-41. The #4 seed Green Wave put the game away in the final period and ended what was another season of progress for coach Jon Presnell and the Alexander Central Women’s Basketball Program.

Gracie Harrington and Hallie Jarrett led the AC scoring with 12 each. Nikki Hagy finished with another double-double scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Turnovers doomed the Blue and Gold as they had 27 compared to Ashbook’s 13.

With the loss, ACHS completes the season at 11-4. Ashbook advances to round II with a record of 13-1.
