The North Carolina Department of Commerce released the unemployment numbers for each of the state’s 100 counties on Wednesday.
Alexander County saw their jobless numbers fall from 4.2 percent in April to 3.9 percent in May. Alexander was one of only 8 counties that saw unemployment improve. 77 counties showed an increase in the amount of joblessness in May. 15 counties remained the same.
Alexander County 3.9 down from 4.2
Caldwell County 4.6 up from 4.5
Catawba County 4.3 unchanged from April
Iredell County 4.3 down from 4.5
Wilkes County 4.3 up from 4.2
Orange County had the state’s lowest rate of unemployment at 3.3
Scotland County had the state’s highest rate of unemployment at 8.6
