Alexander County Government will participate in Operation Green Light for Veterans November 4–11, 2026, illuminating the County Administration Building, Alexander County Services Center, and Courthouse Park in green to show support and appreciation for local veterans and their families.
Operation Green Light is a nationwide initiative of the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACVSO), with support from the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC). The Alexander County Board of Commissioners has adopted a resolution supporting the initiative each November.
The initiative honors veterans of all military conflicts while raising awareness of the challenges many veterans and their families face, as well as the resources available to assist them at the local, state, and federal levels.
“By shining the green light, we continue to honor the brave men and women who’ve sacrificed so much to protect our freedom,” said Cherry Kilby, Alexander County Veteran Services Officer. “Our veterans deserve our gratitude and support. I encourage families, businesses, and organizations to join us again this year in displaying a green light to show appreciation for our veterans and their families.”
Residents, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to participate by replacing a single light bulb with a green bulb. Whether displayed outdoors for neighbors and passersby or indoors to spark conversations, each green light serves as a visible reminder that veterans are seen, appreciated, and supported.
Although Operation Green Light coincides with Veterans Day on November 11, participants are encouraged to display green lights year-round and share photos on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
