Alexander County Veteran Services Office Now Filing PACT Act Claims

August 17, 2022 By Richard C. Gilbert

The PACT Act is a new law that expands VA health care and benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances. This law helps the VA provide generations of veterans — and their survivors — with the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve. The Alexander County Veteran Services Office is now helping local veterans and survivors file PACT Act claims.

“The PACT Act is a historic new law that will help VA deliver for millions of veterans and their survivors by empowering us to presumptively provide care and benefits to veterans suffering from more than 20 toxic exposure-related conditions. It will also bring generations of veterans into VA health care, which will improve veteran health outcomes across the board,” said VA Secretary Denis McDonough.

If you think you might be eligible for PACT Act benefits, here’s what you need to know: You can apply for PACT Act-related benefits now by filing a claim at VA or at the Alexander County Veteran Services Office.

“The PACT Act was signed into law on August 10, 2022. We can file claims immediately and the VA will start the development process,” said Cherry Kilby, Alexander County Veteran Service Officer. “The VA will begin processing PACT Act claims in January 2023, but we can file now for our local veterans.”

Learn more about the PACT Act by visiting www.VA.gov/PACT or calling 1-800-MY-VA-411.
