Alexander County Remains Under Flood Watch

June 22, 2023 By Richard C. Gilbert

Alexander County remains under a Flood Watch which has been extended to midnight tonight. Rain totals for today are between a 1/4 and 1/2 inch of rain with winds gusts as high as 18 mph and should clear the area by this afternoon. There is a slight risk (at least 15%) of excessive rainfall for today and reduces to a marginal risk (at least 5%) on Friday with a potential thunderstorm tomorrow. Flood gauges continually decrease and some are back to normal. Lake Hickory is 1.4 feet above target but still 1.6 feet below max.

As of now, Saturday will provide some needed sunshine in the morning with a chance of thunderstorm after 2pm. The high will be 83 with a low of 62. There will be a break for the Vertical Mile Challenge and Vashti Day this Saturday. VMC signup ends at midnight tonight so sign up!
