Due to increased risk, the Alexander County Fire Marshal’s Office has issued a burn ban on all open burning countywide, effective at 8:00 p.m. today (July 3) until further notice.
“Our top priority is always to protect lives and property in Alexander County,” said Alexander County Fire Marshal Mark Earle.
Under the North Carolina law and North Carolina Fire Code 307.1.1, the ban prohibits all open burning in the county. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to the extinguishment of the fire.
Local fire departments and law enforcement officers will have the authority to order any and all fires on arrival to enforce the burn ban.
The Alexander County Fire Marshal’s Office will continue to monitor weather conditions.
Residents with questions regarding the burn ban can contact their county fire marshal’s office representatives by calling 828-632-2911 and requesting the on-call fire marshal.
