The Alexander Central High School Athletic Department would like to say “Thank You” to Coach Ashley Bumgarner who last week announced that he was stepping down as Head Coach of our Varsity Women’s Soccer team.
Bumgarner joined our coaching staff in 2018 and guided our Women’s Soccer program for the past five seasons, with this past season being his most successful season with 13 wins.
After announcing his resignation, Bumgarner commented “I loved the opportunity to lead the Alexander Central Women’s Soccer program for the last five years. I have grown in my confidence as a coach and in my ability to lead a program in the right direction. With Coaches Elizabeth Dula and Juan Sierra by my side from the onset, we began the process of rebuilding a fractured program. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for their hard work, leadership, and, most of all, their friendship. Adding Coach (Kevin) Belcher in 2022 added another layer of leadership to the program, and with his help, along with Coach Sierra, we had the best season in the last decade at least. I am sincerely thankful and grateful for your friendship and partnership through this process.”
ACHS Athletic Director Nathan Robinson shared his thoughts by saying “I want to extend a sincere “Thank You” to Coach Bumgarner for stepping up and taking over our Women’s Soccer program five years ago. We were in bad spot at the time and Ashley stepped forward to help us out and guide our young ladies in the soccer program. He has been instrumental in helping revitalize the program and was a big part of helping secure the new scoreboard at the soccer field as well. I can’t say thank you enough to him for his contributions over the past five years.”
The search for a new Head Coach has begun and anybody interested is asked to please submit their resume/application to Nathan Robinson at nrobinson@alexander.k12.nc.us.
