Alexander Central Teacher Wins $50,000 Prize

October 5, 2022 By Richard C. Gilbert

Joshua Bowles

Alexander Central High School’s Joshua Bowles has been named the winner of the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence. Bowles, a carpentry teacher, won a total of $50,000, including $15,000 for himself and $35,000 for his program. A total of $1.25 million is being awarded to 20 high school skilled trades teachers in 15 states.

“I work to improve my teaching by constantly evaluating what works and what doesn’t. I’m not sure I have ever taught any module or lesson the same way twice; I am always making tweaks that will help my students better understand,” says Bowles.
