Moravian Falls: Find a way ! Alexander Central found a way to snatch a victory from what looked to be a defeat Friday night at Wilkes Central.
The Cougars took a lead with 8:12 left in the 2nd quarter when Chad Lasher ran into the endzone from 19 yards. Carson Davis added the point-after touchdown and AC led 7-0.
The Eagles capped a 68 yard drive when Jaylen Thompson scored fro 4 yards with 7 seconds left in the half. The kick went through the uprights and the two rivals were tied at 7.
The third period belonged to the home team. Wilkes Central took advantage of an Alexander Central fumble and went ahead 13-7 on a Noah McNeil 1 yard run with 3 minutes left in the period.
Wilkes Central looked to be putting the game away early in the fourth quarter but failed on a 4th and 2. The Cougars went 68 yards in 6 plays when Braydon Rowe found paydirt from a yard. The score was set up by a 50-yard strike from QB Tanner Moore to Jamison Rowe. The kick failed and the score was knotted at 13.
A fumble on their own 8 yard line doomed the Eagles. Tanner Moore, nursing a balky knee, scored on his only run of the night from 5 yards with 1:44 left in the contest. Carson Davis added the P.A.T to provide the winning score of 20-13
Wilkes Central out gained ACHS 300 to 202.
Bradon Rowe led the AC ground attack with 78 yards on 16 carries. Wade Queen led the defense with 8 tackles and Nate Dahlstrom added 7.
The Blue and Gold improve to 2-0, Wilkes Central falls to 0-2.
The Cougars lost fullback Sawyer Chapman-Mays to an ankle injury in the first half. His status in not known.
