Alexander Central Opens Tournament With Rout Over Newton Conover

The top seed Cougars romped over the 8 seed Newton Conover in the annual event at the Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds on Tuesday. The win gives Cougar coach Pete Hardee his 100th career win at Alexander Central. He now has 464 wins in his career.

Caleb Williams, Konor Davis and Mason Chapman Mays combined on a 6 inning no-hitter. Williams went 3 innings to earn the win.

Mays had 2 runs batted in. Williams and Jaret Hoppes had two hits each.

The Cougars are 16-2. Newton Conover drops to 5-12.

ACHS will play in the tournament semi-finals on Wednesday at 6:30 pm against the winner of the Hickory-Hibriten game.
