Alexander Central Basketball Teams Open Conference Season At Ashe County

Alexander Central and Ashe County opened the Northwestern Conference Basketball season Tuesday in West Jefferson.

The Lady Cougars trailed 19-9 after one quarter in West Jefferson. They outscored Ashe County 14-7 in quarter four to force a first overtime. Julianna Walter paced the scoring for Alexander Central with 17, Chesney Stikeleather had 14, and Kirstyn Herman 13 points and 11 rebounds. AC struggled from the free-throw line going 10 of 23. The Lady Huskies went 15 of 20 from the stripe. The Lady Cougars are 1-0 in the Northwestern Conference and 13-1, Ashe County falls to 0-1 and 11-3.

The visiting Cougars outscored the Huskies in every quarter and cruised in their Northwestern Conference opener. Evan Presnell led Alexander Central with 18 points and Dusty Sigmon added 12. The Cougars are 1-0 and 13-2.
