Watauga 45 Alexander Central 42
Boone: For the second straight game, Alexander Central shot poorly, this time they couldn’t find a way to overcome it. ACHS scored their last basket from the field with more than 6 minutes left in the game but never trailed by more than six points and that was in the first quarter. AC made just 3 of 22 three-point attempts.
The hard-fought game was tied four times with eight lead-changes despite the off-night from distance by Alexander Central.
Kate Sears led Watauga with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Malayah Adams paced AC with 15 points including 6 of 7 from the free-throw line. Kirstyn Herman had 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Meredith Wike went 0 of 9 from behind the arc and collected 11 points.
Watauga (20-5) moves to Friday night’s Championship battle against the winner of tonight’s Hibriten vrs Ashe County game.
Alexander Central drops to 20-6 and await their pairing for the State 4A Playoffs.
Men
Alexander Central 70 South Caldwell 66
It’s been a tough season for the Cougar Men, more often than not they’ve come up just-short in close games. Not this time ! The Cougars never trailed after the Spartans led by a point early in the game.
AC led 22-15 after the first quarter. They kept South trying to rally for the rest of the night.
Four Cougars finished with double-figure scoring. Chad Lasher had 18, Jayon Connor 16, Garison Millsaps 12 and Jaheim Redmond added 11.
South Caldwell was led by Conner Setzer with 23 including 5 of 7 from behind the three-point arc. The Spartans, the tournament’s top seed, drops to 18-7.
Alexander Central (12-14 ) will play for the Conference Championship Friday night against the winner of tonight’s Watauga vrs Freedom match up.
