West Jefferson: Alexander Central routed an undermanned Ashe County Team Friday night in a game that was decided before the first quarter-clock expired.
Opening period touchdown runs by Cole Pennell (35 yards). Jaquis Parks (19 yards) and Eli Queen (53 yards) had the visitors up 20-0 in the opening period. Jonas Henson would haul-in a 9 yard scoring toss from QB Jacob Hubbard on the opening play of the second quarter.
By intermission, t\he Blue and Gold were up 47-0 on scoring runs by Jaquis Parks (15 yards), Weston Palmer (1 yard) Jonas Henson (1 yard). Trey Evans sprinted to the end zone from 89 yards in the final quarter to conclude the scoring as the clock ran without pause in the second half.
Ashe County made some big plays against the AC reserves in the second half but were unable to put any points on the scoreboard.
Trey Evans led Alexander Central’s defense with 7 tackles. Kayden Blount collected 6 stops, Carlos Mckeithan had 6 and Sammy Palmer 5.
Ashe County drops to 0-2 while Coach Chris Marshall’s Cougars improve to 2-1 with a game against rival Statesville next Friday in Taylorsville.
