A woman died in a residential fire on Thursday morning in the Champion Fire District near the Wilkes-Watauga County line.
The victim has been identified as Rose Lee Adams, 77, according to the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office. Adams lived at the location alone.
The Wilkes Communications Center dispatched firefighters to the home at 7:10 am. Indications were the elderly female resident was still in the structure. The home has a Deep Gap (Watauga County) address but is only a few hundred feet from the Wilkes County Line.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Millers Creek and Deep Gap Fire Departments responded to assist Champion. Wilkes Emergency Medical Services also responded.
