Taylorsville- On Monday, September 21st at approximately 10:03 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision on US 64 near Adams Pond Road, in Alexander County.
A 2024 Ram Tow truck was traveling West on US 64 before crossing the center line and was traveling the wrong way. The ram then collided head on with a 2023 Freightliner tractor trailer. The Ram then became fully engulfed in flames with the driver entrapped in the vehicle.
The driver of the Ram, Justice Mcray Boyette, 31, of Winston Salem, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision.
The driver of the Freightliner, Crystal Sue Austin, 56, of Lenoir, was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center main with serious injuries.
While Troopers conducted the on-scene investigation, US 64 was closed for several hours.
There will be no charges in this case.
