WILKESBORO – N.C. Department of Transportation officials have closed the bridge on Oakwoods Road over Cub Creek near Main Street in Wilkesboro out of an abundance of caution.
A bridge inspection revealed that components of the bridge should be repaired before reopening the bridge to traffic. Local transportation officials are in the process of developing a repair plan, and crews will begin repairs to reopen the bridge as soon as possible.
Local traffic may still access neighborhoods adjacent to Oakwoods Road from the south, but through traffic is being detoured to U.S. 421 South to N.C. 115 to Old U.S. 421.
