Wilkes County Woman Survives Fall Down Large Embankment

August 8, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

After being reported missing on Sunday, an elderly Wilkes County woman was found at the base of a steep embankment in the Cabin Creek Road section of Hays.

The woman, said to be in her 80’s, left her home early Sunday morning and was walking along Cabin Creek Road when she lost her balance and fell down the steep embankment according to the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office. She apparently fell 40-50 feet and received a substantial head laceration. She was taken to a hospital for treatment. No update on her condition has been released.

A large number of emergency volunteers were involved in the search.
