According to a published report in the “Wilkes Journal-Patiot”, a man died as a result an accident while he was cutting a tree in the Pores Knob section of Moravian Falls on Tuesday afternoon.
The man was deceased when emergency personnel reached him near the end of Treadway Road, a dead end, gravel road off N.C. 16.
The victim has been identified as Michael Scroggs of Moravian Falls. Reports indicate he was clearing debris that resulted from Tropical Storm Helene and was about three-quarters of a mile behind a residnece when the accident occurred.
Scroggs was struck by a large tree root-ball. It occurred less than a mile from the Wilkes-Alexander county line.
The accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m.
