A Wilkes County child has died after she and her sister were struck by a vehicle in the family driveway.

On Thursday, March 28th shortly after 4pm, the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office responded to Maple Leaf Drive in the Millers Creek Community in reference to a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, deputies found two juvenile victims suffering injuries consistent with being hit by a motor vehicle. The vehicle was driven by a teenage family member who didn’t realize the twin girls were in the driveway.

One victim was airlifted to Winston-Salem Brenner Children’s Hospital and the other was treated and released by Wilkes Medical Center. On April 3, the Sheriff’s Office was notified that 7-year old Asphyn Raylie Combs had succumbed to her injuries.
