The Alexander Central High School Athletic Department announces that Jenny Weems has resigned as Head Volleyball Coach effective immediately.
Weems served has Head Volleyball Coach for one season and guided the Lady Cougars to a 10-9 overall record with a 6-3 record in conference play with was good for third place. She also led the Lady Cougars to a first round playoff appearance in her lone season as Head Coach.
After announcing her resignation, Weems commented “I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the ACHS Volleyball Program and assist in the transition last summer. Being a part of the lives of young people is a privileged place to be. Working with Coach Denise Jones and Coach Charman Knight was a delight. Though I value that space, my work responsibilities and leading a varsity program are in direct conflict with one another. I can’t do both to the standard I expect of myself.”
Coach Weems continued with her thoughts and sentiments by saying “ACHS is exceptionally fortunate to have the leadership they do with Jacob Lail (Principal), Nathan Robinson (Athletic Director), Stacy Davis (Asst. Athletic Director), and Josh Williamson (Asst. Athletic Director). Their commitment to the culture of ACHS is without question. ACHS leadership will find the best fit and are worthy of the trust and support from all of us in the process. I care about each of these young women and look forward to continuing to cheer them on from the stands and from the sidelines of life!”
ACHS Athletic Director Nathan Robinson shared his thoughts by saying “I can’t thank Coach Weems enough for the leadership that she gave our Volleyball program over the past season. She guided our ladies during a competitive season that led to a playoff birth. As an athletic department, we wish Coach Weems the best as she moves forward in her career.”
The search for a new Head Coach has begun and anybody interested is asked to please submit their resume/application to Nathan Robinson at nrobinson@alexander.k12.nc.us.
