Watauga County Pedestrian Killed Overnight

Sugar Grove- On Wednesday, December 18, at approximately 6:15 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Watauga County on US 321 near Frank Hodges Drive. During rainy conditions, a 1999 Ford Ranger traveling west on US 321 struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and the roadway was not lighted.

The pedestrian, Tyler McClure Vance, 39, of Butler, TN, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, Kyle Reese Taylor, 23, of Elk Park, was not injured.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed as contributing factors. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for several hours. No charges are expected to be filed in this case.
