On Monday, March 10th, investigators with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division and Special Enforcement Group conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on NC Highway 16 in Denver, NC. The traffic stop was initiated due to a motor vehicle regulatory violation and led to the discovery of illegal drugs.
Investigators found and seized approximately 31.5 grams of fentanyl, 362 dosage units of alprazolam, 1.6 grams of crack cocaine, 3.1 grams of powdered cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and $9,163.00 in cash.
The driver, 56-year-old Gregory Shawn Kain of Newton, and his son 27-year old Spencer Shawn Kain also of Newton, were arrested and charged with the following: Trafficking Opium/Heroin by Possession, Trafficking Opium/Heroin by Transportation, Maintaining a Vehicle for a Controlled Substance, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Conspiracy to Traffic Opium/Heroin, Felony Possession of Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
