On Tuesday, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team conducted a traffic stop on a Virginia registered 2021 Hyundai passenger rental vehicle, on Northbound Interstate 77 at the 68 Mile Marker for a traffic violation.
After approaching the vehicle, the deputies encountered 36-year old Jamaal Lee Fairfax who was driving the vehicle, and Kevin James Davis, age 54, who was a passenger. Deputies asked Fairfax to exit the vehicle. While Fairfax was getting out of the vehicle, the deputies saw Fairfax appeared to throw an unknown object into the driver’s seat while he was getting out.Canine “Connie” was called to the scene to assist with the traffic stop. Connie gave a positive alert on the vehicle.
A pat down of Davis was conducted revealing a small amount of marijuana, and an unknown powder substance. Davis was then detained in handcuffs.
When the vehicle search was conducted, the deputies located a large amount of suspected Cocaine in a food saver bag found in an overnight bag. After locating the cocaine Fairfax and Davis were placed under arrest.
Jamaal Lee Fairfax and Kevin James Davis were transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. Where each was suspect was charged with: Felony Trafficking Cocaine by Transportation, Felony Trafficking Cocaine by Possession, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Cocaine, Felony Maintaining a Dwelling or Vehicle for the Sale or Use of a Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Both Fairfax and Davis were placed in the Iredell Detention Center with $200,000 bonds each.
A total of 660 Grams or 1.47 pounds of Cocaine and 10 Grams of Marijuana was seized. The Cocaine has an estimated street value of over 60,000.00 dollars.
Both subject have multiple felony conviction from several states.
