North Wilkesboro – On Saturday, April 4th, at approximately 06:28 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Wilkes County on Dav Road near J Harrold Dr. A 2005 Honda Element was traveling West on Dav Road when it ran off the road to the right, struck a culvert, and overturned. The driver was then ejected and struck a mailbox.
The driver of the Honda, Kailey Marie Everette, 22, of North Wilkesboro, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
The investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor in the collision; however, speed is believed to be a factor. While Troopers conducted the on scene investigation, the roadway was closed for approximately 2 hours. No charges will be filed in this case.
Wilkesboro – On Saturday, April 4th, at approximately 09:11 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Wilkes County on South Windy Gap Road near Jarvis Store Road. A 2016 Ford pickup was traveling East on South Windy Gap Road near Jarvis Store Road. A pedestrian was walking across the roadway, walked in front of the pickup as it came around a curve. The pedestrian was then struck by the Ford pickup truck.
The driver of the Ford, David Eugene Mesimer, 68, of Union Grove, had no injuries.
The pedestrian, Douglas Edward Williams, 74, of North Wilkesboro, was transported to Wilkes Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors in the collision. The roadway was closed for approximately one hour while Troopers conducted the on-scene investigation. After consultation with the Wilkes County District Attorney’s office, no charges will be filed at this time.
