Taylorsville Police Make Bust After Traffic Stop

On Friday, April 3rd, an officer with the Taylorsville Police Department observed a white pickup truck traveling southbound on NC-16. After a license plate check it revealed that the truck had no insurance coverage and a revoked registration. A traffic stop was initiated.

The driver was identified as Jacquez Markie Burrell, age 26, of 3rd Ave SE Hickory. A check showed that Burrell’s license is suspended. Based on probable cause, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located cocaine, drug paraphernalia, ammunition, and a loaded handgun.

Further investigation confirmed that Burrell is a convicted felon. His previous convictions include possession of a firearm by a felon in Alexander County, felony kidnapping, common law robbery, felony breaking and entering and felony larceny in Catawba County.

Burrell was placed under arrest and transported to the Alexander County Jail. The following charges have been filed:

Burrell is being held in the Alexander County Detention Center without bond. A Monday appearance in district court is scheduled.
