The Taylorsville Police Department is aware of a live black bear sighting within the Town of Taylorsville city limits.
While we appreciate our wildlife visitors, we kindly ask residents to remember that this is not Smokey Bear’s meet-and-greet tour. Please do not feed, approach, or attempt to take selfies with the bear.
For your safety:
• Keep a safe distance and allow the bear plenty of space.
• Do not feed the bear or leave pet food outside.
• Secure garbage cans and remove any food sources that may attract wildlife.
• Keep pets on a leash and supervise them while outdoors.
• If you encounter the bear, remain calm, slowly back away, and do not run.
The bear is simply passing through and would much rather avoid you than meet you. Let’s help keep both our residents and our furry visitor safe.
If you observe the bear in an area where it poses an immediate danger to the public, please contact the Taylorsville Police Department.
And remember… if the bear starts asking for a driver’s license, it’s definitely not one of our officers.
