Taylorsville Police Continue To Investigate Accident and Standoff

January 26, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

Taylorsville Police continue to investigate an accident that led to an armed standoff on Wednesday.

A pickup truck crashed in to a pair of utility poles on Main Street before coming to a stop.

When emergency units arrived, the driver of the vehicle was armed and threatening suicide.

A huge law enforcement response followed and a standoff lasted for more than an hour.

The man fired the weapon at himself and missed according to Taylorsville Police Chief Michael Millsaps. The subject surrendered the weapon and was taken to a medical facility for treatment. No update on his condition has been released.

As a precaution two nearby schools, Taylorsville Elementary and Alexander Central High School were placed on Code-In status. Millsaps stress that the schools were never in any danger.

Possible charges are pending. On Thursday Chief Millsaps said “for now it’s a medical issue.”
