Around 4 am Friday, Taylorsville Police and Deputies with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bebber’s County Store on Highway 90 East. An object had been tossed into the glass front of the business in an effort to gain entry. The suspect fled the scene when the alarm sounded.
A suspect and a vehicle were captured on surveillance video. The images were posted on 860wacb.com and multiple social media sites. Hammer was taken into custody Friday afternoon and charged with felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor injury to real property. He was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver methamphetamine, felony maintaining vehicle/dwelling/place for a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hammer is being held in the Alexander County Detention Center with a secured bond of $12,000. He is scheduled to make an initial court appearance in Alexander County District Court on Monday, February 8th.
Taylorsville Police Chief Doug Bowman indicated that a citizen recognized the vehicle from photographs posted Friday morning and contacted law enforcement.
