Taylorsville Man, Statesville Man Charged With Robbery Of Pastor

January 24, 2025 By Richard C. Gilbert

A Statesville pastor was assaulted and robbed by workers helping renovate a Statesville church, according to the Statesville Police Department.

David Malachi Harris

David Malachi Harris, age 36 of Hickory, is charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury, simple assault, common law robbery, larceny, larceny of a motor vehicle and resist, delay or obstruct a public officer, according to the Iredell County Detention Center inmate records.

Jaddin Allen Norris

Jaddin Allen Norris, age 20 of Taylorsville, is charged with two counts of felony accessory after the fact. Norris was released from prison in December being granted parole after serving less than 4 months of a 19 month sentence for trafficking methamphetamine.

Police were called to the 1400 block of Alexander Street on January 1st. A local pastor was renovating his church when he was assaulted and robbed. The pastor’s vehicle was also stolen, Statesville police said in a news release.

Statesville Police did not provide the name of the pastor, or the name of the church but did indicate three people were involved in the robbery. Harris was identified as the individual who carried out the assault. Investigators say Norris drove a separate vehicle and followed the pastor’s stolen vehicle. Statesville police said Norris helped Harris when the pastor’s vehicle was abandoned.

Both men remain in the Iredell County Detention Center as of Thursday. Harris is being held on a $89,5000 bond. Norris is being held on a $10,000 bond, the Statesville police said.
