Alexander County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence where an assault had been reported. Upon arrival, a female had been assaulted and the suspect had fled the scene.
Deputies began a search for 33-year old Matthew Douglas Roop.
As the result of a traffic stop, Roop was taken into custody. He was processed shortly after 1am today and charged with assault on a female, felony and misdemeanor probation violations, possession of methamphetamine and driving with license revoked.
The suspect is being held without bond in the Alexander County Detention Center.
Roop has previous charges that include felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of schedule IV controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with license revoked.
