Last October, Norton was arrested after what Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman called “A drug deal gone bad.” On October 7th, 2020, Alexander County Sheriff’s Deputies, Taylorsville Police, the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Alexander Rescue, and Alexander County EMS responded to a location off Fox Valley Drive in the Wittenburg Community. A male and a female had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The male subject was struck four times and the female twice. Their wounds were non-life threatening, and both were released from area hospitals.
The victims were shot while sitting in a vehicle, no evidence has indicated they returned fire. Norton was said to be the shooter according to investigators. He is charged with two-counts of attempted first-degree murder, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, two-counts of assault with intent to kill, felony conspiracy to sell and deliver schedule VI controlled substance, and multiple counts of felony conspiracy. Norton was arrested the day of the shooting and remains in the Alexander County Detention Center without bond.
Then 20-year old Carl Anthony Montgomery of Taylorsville was charged with one count of felony Conspiracy to Sell/Deliver Schedule VI Controlled Substance, one count of felony Conspiracy to Shoot into an Occupied Vehicle, two counts of felony Conspiracy of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill/Inflict Serious Injury.
