Taylorsville Man Charged With Murdering His Grandmother Makes Court Appearance

A Taylorsville man charged with the 2024 murder of his grandmother made an Alexander County Superior Court appearance on Monday.

Nathan Lee Lowe, age 40, was arrested by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office on November 25th, 2024 and charged with the murder of 86-year-old grandmother, Betty Kerley Tedder . Tedder was found deceased in her residence on Russell Gap Road. She died of severe trauma.

Lowe was located at the residence and taken into custody. He was charged with first-degree murder and later charged with malicious conduct by a prisoner and felony probation violation. Lowe remains in the County Detention Center without bond.

On Monday, Lowe appeared during a Rule 24 Hearing to determine if the State will seek the death penalty. The hearing was rescheduled for March 17th.
