Suspect At Large After Fatal Hickory Shooting

On Monday May 15, 2023 at approximately 5:52 P.M., the Hickory Police Department’s Communication Center received multiple 911 calls from residents located at Wimberly Crossing Apartments, 2830 12th Ave SE. The callers advised that a male subject had been shot and was lying on the porch of an apartment at the P building. Upon arrival, officers located the male, Wade McArthur Danner Jr (46 years old), lying on the porch of apartment 51P with gunshot injuries. Catawba County EMS responded and pronounced Danner deceased at the scene.

Witnesses stated that Danner had been involved in a verbal altercation with another male identified as Octavius Dontae Morgan (30 years old) and that he shot Danner. Morgan fled the area prior to officers arriving. Investigators obtained a warrant for First Degree Murder for Morgan and are currently searching for him.
