Sunday Collision Claims Life In Iredell County

October 20, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

Statesville – On Sunday, October 20, at approximately 9:20 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Iredell County on Old Mountain Road at Rumple Hill Drive. A 2019 Chevrolet Blazer traveling south on Old Mountain Road attempted to turn left onto Rumple Hill Drive and turned in front of a northbound 2002 Ford Econoline van.

The driver of the Blazer, James Patrick Sheehan, 76, of Cornelius, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was not restrained by a seatbelt.

The driver of the Econoline van, Leonard Clarence Hagler, 69, of Statesville, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours. No charges will be filed in this case.
