Statesville Man Killed In Catawba County Mishap

May 11, 2024 By Richard C. Gilbert

Catawba- On Friday, May 10, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Catawba County on Oxford School Road near US 70. A 2010 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling north on Oxford School Road, crossed the center line, drove off the left side of the road, and overturned.

The driver of the Yamaha, Wesley Todd Crawford, 56, of Statesville, was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing factor in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately two hours.
