Statesville Man Charged By Hickory Police For Tampering With Sex-Offender Monitor

59-year-old Terry Wayne Dalton of Trailway Drive in Statesville was arrested Wednesday (March 15) by Hickory Police Officers. He’s charged with remove or tamper with a sex offender satellite based monitoring device and parole violation.

Dalton is on the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry as a result of a conviction in September, 2009 in Iredell County for second-degree sex offense. The offense was committed in September, 2008. Dalton received a prison sentence of 17 years, seven months following the conviction. He served just over 13 years of the sentence and was released on October 31, 2022. Dalton is registered with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office as a sex offender, he will be registered for the remainder of his life.

According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Dalton has a criminal history that includes multiple convictions dating back to 1981. He’s been convicted of various crimes including felony counts of being an habitual felon, common law robbery and larceny, along with misdemeanor counts including common law forgery, breaking & entering, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dalton has been convicted in Catawba, Iredell, Mecklenburg and Cabarrus Counties.

Following Wednesday’s arrest, Dalton was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $65,000 bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (March 16). A District Court appearance is scheduled for Friday (March 17).
