Dewayne Lee Howard
Witnesses described the suspect as a black male running north through the parking lot and continuing toward NC Highway 16 . Officers searched the area but were initially unable to locate the suspect.
A review of store surveillance and information from Walmart staff identified the suspect as 43-year-old Dewayne Lee Howard. Warrants were obtained, and Howard was later located and taken into custody. He’s charged with larceny and as of earlier today remains in jail.
The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office and the NC Highway Patrol assisted during the search.
