1984: Apple introduced the Macintosh personal computer during the third quarter of the Super Bowl

1997: The Senate confirmed Madeleine Albright as the first female Secretary of State

1998: Theodore Kaczynski pleads guilty to federal charges for his role as the Unabomber. He agreed to life in prison without parole. He died in 2023, reportedly by suicide

2001: Carolina Panther WR Rae Carruth is sentenced to a minimum 18 years in prison for his role in the 1999 shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend, Cherica Adams. Adams died later from her wounds. The baby survived and lives with the victim’s mother

2002: Kmart filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
