Richard C Gilbert’s Monday Blog

October 19, 2020 By Richard C. Gilbert

Monday October 19th. Day 293 of 2020

It’s Evaluate Your Life Day ! I’d prefer not

1781: British General Charles Lord Cornwallis surrendered to U.S. General George Washington at Yorktown, Virginia. It was to be the last major battle of the American Revolutionary War

1789: John Jay is sworn in as the first Chief Justice of the United States

1933: Basketball was introduced to the 1936 Olympic Games

1960: The United States imposed an embargo on exports to Cuba covering all commodities except medical supplies and certain food products

1987: The Dow Jones Industrial Average falls by 22%

2005: Saddam Hussein goes on trial in Baghdad for crimes against humanity

News: Early voting a hot ticket in Alexander County…COVID-19 update…Man charged with Hiddenite rape make court appearance today in Taylorsville…Man dies in Wilkes County crash…Body found in camper fire Sunday in Iredell County….Two airlifted from Alexander County crashes on Sunday

Weather: Sunny, high in low 70’s

Sports: Braves fall in Game VII to the Dodgers…Panther offense struggles against Bears, fall at home…Two NFL games today…Heels get scalped…Wolfpack win but lose their QB…Clemson and Bama make statements…Lagano wins in Kansas

Happy Birthday: John le Carré, John Lithgow, Jeannie C. Riley, Patrick Simmons, Brad Daugherty, Amy Carter

The man accused of a home invasion and rape in Alexander County is now in custody. He’s been convicted of 5 counts of indecent liberties with a minor and was on the streets. Why ? He connected to the case by DNA which is a clincher unless your name is OJ Simpson

In truth, I always felt the Dodgers would win but going up 2-0 in the series, I had some thoughts that this could happen. The better team won but not the right team for Braves fans

How about this October weather ? It’s been, and looks like it will continue to be, spectacular

Quote of the Day: “I always wanted to be somebody, now I realize I should have been more specific”…Lily Tomlin
